Your rationale about not perpetuating the "angry vegan" stereotype is sound. I find most onmivores whom I speak with about veganism are most willing to listen if they don't feel like I am attacking them or their diet choices. I don't want people to criticize me for my diet choice so I try not to do it to others. The best you can do is attempt to educate people so that hopefully if they know better, they will do better.
